Introduction to Game Studies has truly taught me so much about video games. While I had always thought it could be really cool if I created a video game myself, I never really thought it was attainable for me. Even though I did not have the slightest idea how much time, money, and energy it took to create a video game, I knew that it was quite a lot. Though games are easier for the average person to create them now, I feel like the craftsmanship that goes into creating many video games has completely expanded, and that’s the beauty…

For my final project, I am collaborating in creating a game with an axolotl as the main (playable) character. Title Pending. For this project, my main task is to design the levels for the game. Aside from that, I assisted in splitting and animating sprites, as well as setting up the tile sets and tile maps in order to differentiate between platforms and objects that harm the player. …

This past Friday was my first time playing JackBox Games, and honestly it was fun. I don’t know if it would be as fun with less people, since it’s definitely a multiplayer game, but nonetheless, it was a nice experience.

We played Tee KO first. The randomization of the phrase of the shirt paired with the drawings everyone made is I think the main appeal to the game. I liked the game, however I would not have spent $20 buying a shirt I put together. This is very much a game for a group of friends that have similar sense…

Soul of the Forest

How to play: Using the arrow keys or WASD, move the player forward on the path. You can use the space bar to jump, as there are obstacles that require you to jump, but other than that, this game is mostly walking. You are trying to help the play find their way home.

Known Issues: Disappearing background, enemies do not attack, no projectiles are functioning, character no longer animates, spikes and water do not damage the players health.

The peer feedback was helpful and encouraging. While I personally expressed my frustration with programming in…

What the game currently looks like when you start playing.

This is a review of the playtest my partner and I took part in yesterday. Our game, currently called Soul of the Forest ( we’re still working on a good title.) had its alpha test yesterday. Being an artist with a little programming experience, I am the Programmer and Designer for this game project. Since I had not heard of Unity or tried to create a video game before, this was a new experience. Learning how to animate sprites and drag art to the scene was, in my opinion, the most fun aspect of it, but I think that is…

This video game lab was fun but also confusing and frustrating to say the least. I watched my partner(s) for the lab play games that were interesting, however it can always be frustrating to watch someone play when you have an idea in your head about what moves you would make that the person you are watching in the gameplay is not making. Nonetheless, I got through it.

The three games I played was Everything is going to be OK, Love is Strange, and This is the Only Level.

Everything is going to be OK was more of an interactive…

There are a lot of different games to play with cards. Forgetting that for a minute, I decided to create yet another card game. Will it always be with cards and develop into something else? Who knows? I don’t — at least… for now. The game I have been brainstorming here does not have a name yet… but here is a basic description.

How to win:

End the game with the least points. The player with the most points loses. Each player gains points by taking out the others players cards. To take out the other players cards, “attack” your…

Admittedly, I have never heard of Klondike Solitaire prior to playing it for Game Lab 1. However, it appears to be similar to Spider Solitaire to me. Or is it all just another name for regular old Solitaire? I don’t really know. Either way, I played Klondike Solitaire for a few rounds. During the first round, I felt I was doing rather well. However, I made a move that caused me to be stuck, and so I had to start the game over again. This was a new experience to me because in the past when I have played a…

Internet Arcade — Atari’s Paperboy 1984

Out of the games that the Internet Arcade had to offer, I decided to play the classic game Paperboy. What motivated me to try to play this game through the emulator is mostly in part because I have a brief and vague memory of playing this game on my brother’s Sega Genesis. Not having prior experience using an emulator to play a game before, I would say that the handling of how to play the game feels clunky. I know that the controls are going to be different from the Sega controller to the…
